Two restaurants in Broward County want to help South Florida residents waiting for their SNAP benefits to be restored with one free meal a day, the businesses announced on social media.

Pho Bar Vietnamese Kitchen and 545 Banh Mi Cafe are offering one to-go meal per person starting on Nov. 3 “until SNAP benefits are restored,” they said.

November benefits are not available as the government shutdown continues. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, is a federal program that administers food assistance to nearly 3 million Floridians, according to the Florida Department of Children and Families.

The two restaurants wrote in a post on Facebook that they wanted to “help feed families in need.”

“We’re trusting the honor system so no questions will be asked,” they said.

Pho Bar Vietnamese Kitchen is located at 6310 Griffin Road in Davie and also has a location at 10640 Pines Boulevard. Here, you can order any entrée or pho, a Vietnamese noodle soup, under $17.50.

545 Banh Mi Cafe can be found at 6461 Stirling Road in Davie. There you can get any bánh mì, a Vietnamese sandwich that the restaurant says “starts with a crusty French-style baguette,” or noodle/rice box.

Customers just have to mention “SNAP meal” when ordering, no questions asked.

“In Vietnamese culture, we want everyone to eat,” the businesses wrote.

The restaurants said they were getting “lots of requests” on how to donate or help, and said you could do so in person or online.
