JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County — A Cary man is facing multiple charges after Jacksonville police say he was driving impaired with a child in his vehicle Saturday.
According to charging documents, 32-year-old Yusuf Tariq Muhammad was arrested by the Jacksonville Police Department on June 20 after officers stopped him on Wilmington Highway.
Investigators allege Muhammad was operating a vehicle while under the influence of an impairing substance. He is also charged with driving while his license was revoked due to a previous impaired driving-related revocation.
Charging documents further state that Muhammad, identified as the parent of a child under the age of 16, was charged with child abuse. Authorities allege he operated a vehicle while impaired with a 10-year-old child inside. The child is not being identified.
Police also charged Muhammad with failing to properly secure a child in a required restraint system and possessing an open container of alcohol in the passenger area of the vehicle.
Muhammad was transported to the Onslow County Detention Center, where he received a secured bond.
