JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — Cleanup efforts at American Legion Burton-Cowell Post 265 in Jacksonville have reached a major milestone, with the damaged building now cleared away as members look ahead to rebuilding.
The post on Broadhurst Road collapsed on March 12 after severe weather moved through the area.
In the months since, crews have worked to remove debris from the property, including twisted metal, insulation, broken concrete blocks and other remnants of the collapsed structure. Heavy equipment was used to demolish and clear what remained of the building.
Post members say they were able to salvage some items from the damaged site before cleanup operations began.
Now, the property has been cleared, leaving members waiting for construction of a new building to begin.
The American Legion post has served veterans and the Jacksonville community for years, and members remain focused on rebuilding following the loss of their longtime facility.
