A Broward Sheriff’s Office detention deputy is facing two misdemeanor charges after he allegedly fled from a Miramar Police officer who tried to pull him over for speeding and refused to come out of his apartment.
Gounot Pyram, 54, of Miramar, was driving a 2021 Toyota pick-up truck on Sunday shortly before midnight in the area of the 12000 block of Saint Andrews Place in Miramar when an officer tried to pull him over for speeding, a probable cause affidavit said.
Pyram parked in the lot of his apartment complex and ran away from the officer, up a flight of stairs to the front door of his apartment on the second floor, the affidavit said. The officer told Pyram to go back to his car, and he at first began to walk back downstairs with the officer following.
When Pyram got to the first floor of the building, he ran away again through the building and up a different set of stairs, the affidavit said. The officer chasing him ran into a concrete wall after turning a corner and fell.
Pyram made it back to his front door, went inside the apartment and refused to come back out, the affidavit said. His daughter came out and told officers Pyram works for the Sheriff’s Office, and the BSO Public Corruption Unit was called to help.
The next morning, Pyram was taken into custody by Public Corruption Unit detectives, the affidavit said.
He faces two misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer without violence and has been released from jail after posting bail. He has not yet entered a plea to the charges. Attorney information was not available.
Pyram was hired in 2002 and has been placed on administrative leave with pay since his arrest, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Veda Coleman-Wright said in an email Wednesday.
