NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – Rescue crews rushed a child to the hospital after the young victim was struck by a school bus in Northwest Miami-Dade, officials said.

Surveillance video captured the moment the child was struck just feet from a county bus depot, at around 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

The footage shows the victim in the top right corner of the frame riding their scooter along the sidewalk when the collision occurred.

The camera glitches for a few seconds, and then moments later the child is seen limping away from the bus along 27th Avenue.

Nelson, a bystander, saw the child on the ground and ran across the street to help.

“I just saw him and I asked him if he needed something, he told me his phone didn’t have service so I tried contacting one of his family members,” said the good Samaritan.

That child was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital as a trauma alert, but Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies later said the boy was not injured.

“He seemed OK. He was talking,” said Nelson.

The good Samaritan said the intersection is problematic.

“There should be a light there,” he said.

Nelson added how he believed the crash occurred.

“Most of the time people look to the left and don’t look back to the right and that’s when people be crossing the street,” he said.

Miami-Dade Public Schools told 7News that no students were on that bus, just the driver.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is now leading the ongoing investigation.
