The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed tight end Brenton Strange on a three-year contract extension worth up to $48 million, with $25 million guaranteed. The agreement prevents the young veteran from hitting unrestricted free agency next spring, anchoring him in Jacksonville through the 2029 campaign.
Originally selected out of Penn State by the Jaguars with the 61st overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Strange was entering the final season of his rookie contract. The 24-year-old Strange has accumulated 91 receptions for 981 yards and six scores throughout his professional career, and is coming off the most productive campaign of his career, recording 46 receptions for 540 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games despite missing time with a hip injury. His development under coach Liam Coen helped establish him as a central figure in Jacksonville’s offense and an important contributor in both the passing and running games.
By executing this contract before the final year of his rookie agreement, general manager James Gladstone continues a recent organizational shift toward extending drafted talent early. Team leadership initiated preliminary contract discussions shortly after the conclusion of the previous season. The financial breakthrough materialized rapidly on Wednesday, following a substantial financial reset in the league’s tight end market just one day prior.
The agreement also comes after offseason reports indicated the Jaguars planned to expand Strange’s role by moving him around the formation, including occasional snaps split out wide. Jacksonville also added rookies Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol during April’s draft, but the new deal reinforces Strange’s status as the club’s top tight end and a foundational piece in Coen’s multiple-tight-end schemes.
