The Cape Coral Police Department arrested Shaheem Raekwon Preston (DOB 11/04/1996) late Wednesday night following reports of reckless driving and a brief foot pursuit that ended with the suspect hiding inside a car wash.
On June 24, 2026, at approximately 11:28 p.m., officers responded to a call regarding a reckless driver traveling northbound in the 2400 block of Santa Barbara Boulevard South. The vehicle was described as a silver Dodge Ram pickup truck, with the driver reportedly speeding and possibly impaired.
An officer located a vehicle matching that description in the parking lot of McDonalds near the 800 block of Northeast Pine Island Road. The driver was observed operating the vehicle at a high rate of speed within the parking lot, spinning tires and disregarding multiple stop signs.
A traffic stop was initiated in the parking lot of Walgreens; however, the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers established a perimeter and quickly located the individual hiding inside a car wash. The suspect was found lying on the ground beneath the car wash machinery, attempting to conceal himself. He was taken into custody without further incident.
The driver was identified as Shaheem Raekwon Preston. During the investigation, officers observed signs of impairment, including slurred speech, bloodshot and watery eyes, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage. The suspect refused to participate in standardized field sobriety exercises and declined to provide a breath sample after being advised of implied consent.
A records check revealed the suspect’s driver license was suspended. A search of the vehicle incident to arrest located multiple small liquor bottles, including both empty and unopened containers.
Preston was ultimately transported to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:
