Tallahassee mother to stand trial this week after 3-year-old son died from ingesting fentanyl

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – This week, a mother will stand trial for the death of her three-year-old son.

A jury was chosen on Monday to hear the case against Cameren Evans.

Evans is charged with aggravated manslaughter after her three-year-old died in January 2023.

The child was found unresponsive in a Tallahassee apartment, and an autopsy indicated the boy swallowed fentanyl.

Evans is also accused of leaving her child in the care of Tony Balcom, from whom she bought drugs. He is facing the same aggravated manslaughter charges as Evans.

Opening statements in Evans’ trial are expected to start Wednesday morning.
