PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — Three teens were followed and held at gunpoint by a 49-year-old man after police say they fired Orbeez pellets at his vehicle, sparking an armed confrontation, the Port St. Lucie Police Department said.

According to police, officers responded Wednesday at about 8:50 a.m. to the area of SW Morelia Lane and SW Acapulco Terrace after receiving reports that teenagers had fired what was initially believed to be a BB gun or pellet gun from a moving vehicle.

During the investigation, officers determined a 15-year-old fired a blue, white and yellow Piranha Orbeez toy gun from a moving vehicle at another vehicle carrying a man and his fiancée.

The man, identified as Gregory Allen Davis, and his fiancée, who was driving, believed they were being shot at with a BB gun and continued following the teens’ vehicle while remaining on the phone with 911 and providing updates, according to authorities.

Police said that while stopped at the intersection of SW Morelia Lane and SW Acapulco Terrace, Davis got out of his vehicle armed with a 9mm handgun and ordered the teens to get out of their vehicle and lie on the ground, where they remained until officers arrived.

Video from the Port St. Lucie Police Department shows Davis approaching the vehicle and yelling at the teenagers and telling them to get out of the car and get on the ground.

“Why are we pointing guns at kids?” a responding officer can be heard saying on officer worn body cam.

Investigators said the 15-year-old admitted to firing the Orbeez gun but said he believed the vehicle belonged to a friend because it was the same make and color. Police said the teens were engaged in a prank.

Davis, 49, was arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and false imprisonment of a child to commit aggravated abuse.

The 15-year-old was also arrested and faces a charge of shooting or throwing a missile at or into an occupied vehicle.
