DAVENPORT, Fla. (CBS12) — A Davenport woman already jailed on traffic-related charges is now facing animal cruelty and neglect charges after deputies said five severely neglected dogs and one deceased dog were found at her home.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said 33-year-old Caroline Kanyamauri was arrested by the Davenport Police Department on June 24 on five traffic-related misdemeanors. While she was being taken into custody, investigators said Kanyamauri asked officers if she could call her sister to go to her home and check on her dogs because she would be in jail.
The next day, Kanyamauri’s sister went to the residence and contacted law enforcement after seeing the condition of the animals, according to PCSO.
Deputies said they found the decomposing remains of a dead dog inside a black wire kennel in the backyard. Four live puppies were found on a porch covered in feces, and an adult male dog was found inside the home with visible ribs and bone structure, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators said the five surviving dogs appeared to be malnourished and infested with parasites. Polk County Animal Control is conducting full medical exams on the animals.

PCSO Animal Cruelty Investigators added 10 animal-related charges against Kanyamauri, including five counts of animal cruelty and five counts of animal neglect, all first-degree misdemeanors. She is also charged with unlawful disposal of a dead animal, a second-degree misdemeanor.
Kanyamauri remains in the Polk County Jail.
“We are grateful to this suspect’s family member for contacting law enforcement when she encountered what were clearly severely neglected and malnourished pets, in time for us to rescue these puppies and dog and return them to health,” Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement.
“It is our hope that they go to loving homes as soon as they are rehabilitated, and that Ms. Kanyamauri is not allowed to own animals again.”
