One teenager drowned, and another one was taken to the hospital after separate incidents in Florida City on Saturday, deputies said.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, just after 7 p.m., Florida City Police arrived at 33600 N. Redland Road after receiving reports of a near-drowning.
When officers and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived at the scene, crews pulled a 14-year-old boy out of the water, and he was taken to the hospital, where he died.
After an hour of the first incident, deputies said officers went back to the same location after another near-drowning was reported.
Another 14-year-old boy was then airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.
MDSO has since taken over the investigation.
