Heat advisory brings triple-digit heat index, storms to Central Florida. Here’s what to expect

  • June 29, 2026

ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida is in for another scorching summer day, with dangerous heat building Monday afternoon before scattered thunderstorms develop later in the day.

MONDAY

A heat advisory is in effect from noon until 7 p.m. for Marion, Flagler, Lake, Volusia, Seminole, Orange and northern Brevard counties, where heat index values are expected to reach 108 to 110 degrees.

Actual air temperatures will climb into the middle and upper 90s inland, with low 90s along the immediate coast. The hottest temperatures are expected near and north of the Interstate 4 corridor, making today the hottest day of the week.

As the afternoon wears on, the sea breeze will trigger a 50-60% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, with the greatest coverage expected across the interior during the late afternoon and early evening.

A few storms could become strong, producing frequent lightning, wind gusts up to 50 mph, and torrential rainfall.

TUESDAY

Rain chances increase on Tuesday as a weak front settles closer to North Florida, increasing rain and storm coverage to 70-80%, especially across northern and interior portions of Central Florida. Temperatures will ease back slightly, but heat index values will still climb above 100 degrees.

LATE WEEK

The typical summer pattern continues through the rest of the week, with daily afternoon storms, highs in the low 90s, and muggy conditions sticking around into the Fourth of July weekend.
