The Miami Dolphins have traded edge rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2026 third-round pick, according to ESPN.
The Eagles have now made three trades in the past week, leading up to Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline. They previously acquired cornerbacks Michael Carter II and Jaire Alexander in an effort to improve a defense ranked 23rd in the NFL.

A former first-round draft pick, Phillips had one of his most productive seasons playing under current Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, when he had 6.5 sacks in eight games.
The trade grew more expected as Philadelphia continued to look for help on the edge with Phillips emerging as one of the team’s top targets. It came to fruition after Miami parted ways with general manager Chris Grier.
Grier and the Dolphins parted ways Friday. With Grier out, the team promoted Champ Kelly to its interim general manager role. Kelly wasted no time settling into his new gig, making the trade with Phillips just days after his promotion.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman used one of the Eagles’ two Round 3 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft to acquire Phillips. The team received an additional 2026 third-round pick from the New York Jets as part of the Haason Reddick trade in 2024. The deal proved to be a disaster for the Jets, as Reddick played in just 10 games before leaving the team in the offseason.
Phillips showed his potential early in his career with 22 sacks across his first 42 games. Achilles and ACL injuries then limited him to 12 games total in the 2023-24 seasons.
Phillips has played in all nine of Miami’s games this season and has three sacks. He will be a free agent at the end of the season.
NFL Network reported Miami will pay for some of Phillips’ remaining salary, which allowed the Dolphins to receive a higher draft pick in return from Philadelphia.
