FORT PIERCE — It’s Election Day in Fort Pierce for registered voters in the city’s District 2.
Ballots can be cast at one of seven voting locations today from 7 a.m to 7 p.m.
Only registered voters in District 2 may participate because they are deciding who will be representing them on the Fort Pierce City Commission for the next three years.
The vacancy was created in July after former Commissioner James Taylor III resigned his seat, following being charged with multiple counts of online exploitation of an Illinois minor. He has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial.
On the ballot are Donna Benton, 67, of 1365 Bayshore Dr., a real estate broker and company owner; Chris Dzadovsky, 64, of 1002 Jamaica Ave., a semi-retired realtor; and Jaimebeth Galinis, 48, of 1710 Plover Ave., an operational efficiency senior director at Becton Dickinson, Stuart.
If a single candidate garners a simple majority of today’s votes, they will be declared the next District 2 commissioner. However, if no one gets at least 50 percent plus one vote, the top two finishers will advance to a Jan. 13, winner-take-all election.
