Hot and humid weather has settled into the region.
Extreme hot and humid temperatures remain in the forecast this week.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington has upgraded the Heat Advisory to an Extreme Heat Warning in place until Thursday for Butler, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Miami, Hamilton, Montgomery, Preble, Green and Warren counties. The NWS added since 105 degrees or more are expected for the heat indexes, they have upgraded the advisory to a heat warning.
On Tuesday, June 30, it will be sunny with a high of 92 degrees.
Wednesday will bring sunshine and hot temperatures as highs rise to 94 degrees.
Thursday echoes Wednesday’s conditions with sunny skies and a high of 94 degrees.
Friday will be partly sunny as highs remain in in the 90s. There’s a slight chance of rain showers and thunderstorms as well.
The low temperatures of 70 degrees are expected each night, bringing little chance of relief from the heat.
Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities, according to the NWS.
The NWS recommends to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles as car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes, according to the NWS.
The Ohio Traveler Alert System (OTAS) has been activated across Ohio for this extended period of extreme heat, with signs in Toledo, Dayton, Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati reflecting weather information until Thursday.
The NWS said while hot temperatures are expected beyond Friday, the rain showers chances bring a chance of breaking up the excessive heat conditions.
Rain showers with highs in the 80s are expected into Fourth of July weekend.
