ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. — The New River YMCA is working to make sure children have access to nutritious food while school is out for the summer.
According to the New River YMCA, 473 children were served last week through its Youth Summer Feeding Box Program.
The organization says the program helps provide healthy food options for children and families during the summer months when school meals are not available.
Two food distribution events are scheduled for Thursday, July 2.
A Youth Summer Feeding Box Distribution will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Agape Life Family Church, located at 220 Francktown Road in Richlands.
A Youth Open Market will also be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the New River YMCA ELC, located at 159 Chaney Avenue in Jacksonville.
The YMCA says it is also looking for volunteers to help serve the community.
