TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A backyard fire that spread to a mobile home destroyed most of the residence early Tuesday on Lake Atkinson Drive, according to the Tallahassee Fire Department.
At approximately 4:12 a.m. on July 1, the Tallahassee Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire. While crews were en route, responding units were advised the structure was fully involved.
Firefighters arrived to find a heavily involved, single-story wood-frame mobile home with fire throughout most of the structure. Crews began fire suppression operations while conducting primary and secondary searches and confirmed no occupants or pets were inside.
The fire was brought under control within approximately 30 minutes. Crews remained on scene to complete salvage and overhaul operations and to extinguish hot spots.
Most of the structure was destroyed, with only the main bedroom and an attached addition remaining standing. The fire is believed to be accidental after a backyard fire spread to the residence. No injuries were reported.
TFD was assisted by the Lake Talquin Volunteer Fire Department, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Leon County EMS, and Talquin Electric Cooperative.
TFD reminded residents to fully extinguish outdoor fires and never leave them unattended, advising people to use water, stir the ashes and ensure everything is cool to the touch before leaving the area. Even a small fire can quickly spread to nearby vegetation or structures.
