JACKSONVILLE, Ark. — This week the Eat It Up crew visited a staple of the Jacksonville community. Chicken Country has been serving fried chicken, 20 vegetables, and delicious peach cobbler for 50 years!
Owner Bridget Burton took over for her father-in-law over 20 years ago and hasn’t looked back since.
“He started it in 1976, a small business in a small town with fried chicken,” said Bridget.

Chicken Country has seen many folks walk through the door over the past 50 years, including veterans who called Little Rock Air Force Base home.
“The Air Base really supports us; all the banks in town support us, the Little Rock Chapel, and more. The airmen and airwomen want their food quick, and they want soul food for their people,” she added.
Folks can’t seem to get enough of the fried chicken that’s marinated for 8 hours every night and never frozen. It’s fried, coated in flour, one piece at a time, using the same wash that’s been used for half a century.
Vegetable favorites include the steamed cabbage and green beans with bacon grease to give it that amazing flavor. Also mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese, and greens are a huge hit.
Bridget is so happy to have customers coming back year after year.
“I went to college for accounting, and I fry chicken for a living,” she said.
