TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — It is dry to start the holiday weekend, but rain chances will increase quickly, although it will not be a washout.

There will be periods of heavy rain and lightning over the holiday weekend; however, the rain should be manageable.

Friday

Showers develop midday, 11 am to 1 pm, right along the coast today. Storms grow and spread inland, with scattered coverage through 4 or 5 pm, before the majority of storms are well east of I-75 this evening.

One or two storms are possible back at the coast this evening.

The 4th of July

Rain chances on the 4th of July in the Tampa Bay area will increase much earlier in the day. Showers are possible before sunrise in coastal counties with an onshore west wind developing.

Showers will remain largely near and west of I-75 through the morning, but will begin pushing inland early in the afternoon.

Storms will be scattered but meandering east through the early evening. Except for a light shower or two, most areas will be dry by 7 pm, allowing for good conditions for firework shows.

Sunday

Downpours are possible along the coast again early in the morning, but will quickly move inland for the middle of the day and stay well east of I-75 through the evening.

Temps will be hot and humid all weekend long when it is not raining. Feels like temps will be in the upper 90s to 103 degrees each day.

Next week the heat builds and rain chances will come down toward the end of the week.
