ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Just hours after more than 200,000 people gathered for the 29th annual Red Hot & Boom, Cranes Roost Park was back to normal.

City crews worked to clean up the park following Altamonte Springs’ Independence Day celebration, allowing visitors to return Saturday morning.

For Altamonte Springs resident, Edwin Clark, that’s exactly what he has come to expect.

Clark served 22 years in the Air Force before retiring to Altamonte Springs 10 years ago. He says a walk around Cranes Roost Park has become part of his daily routine, and he’s been walking the trails for about six years.

“I like to come over here like six days a week. I run, I walk every day except Sundays. Sometimes I just go around lake here, and sometimes some days I go on the outskirts of the lake all the way up to Douglas Avenue,” Clark said.

By Saturday morning, the crowds were gone, and the park looked much like it does any other day.

“This park is always clean. They keep it immaculate year round so it doesn’t matter the event. I love it here because of the view,” Clark said.

While the park was ready for visitors again, Altamonte Springs City Manager, Frank Martz, said the city’s work is far from over.

“We’ll have after action reports. We’ll start talking about what worked, what didn’t, what do we have to change. So that’s what we do every year. You know, I think there are a lot of really unknowns and unanswered questions about next year. But we do know development is happening,” Martz said.

Martz said city leaders will now review this year’s event, look at how the area continues to grow and begin planning for next year’s 30th Red Hot & Boom.

“It is a tradition, you know, and times change, and we’re looking at what we’re going to do in the future and how we can continue to evolve and be responsible and make sure that we, at the same time, do things that bring our community together,” Martz said.

Martz said most of the cleanup was finished by about 3 a.m., with crews continuing to remove fencing and other equipment through the weekend.
