ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Magic will get their first look at second-round draft pick Izaiyah Nelson in action on Thursday when the Magic begin play at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
The 6-foot-10, 218-pound forward/center signed a two-way contract with the Magic on July 1 after being selected No. 51 overall out of USF in the 2026 NBA Draft. Players on two-way contracts spend time playing for both the NBA and G League team for an organization but are limited to 50 NBA games in a season.
Nelson’s teammates on Orlando’s Summer League team will include 2025 Orlando draft picks Jase Richardson and Noah Penda, who were selected by Orlando last year and played in regular-season games in 2025-26. Two other two-way players — center Colin Castleton and forward Alex Morales, who also saw action with the Orlando Magic last season — also are on the Summer League team.
Orlando will play five games in Las Vegas starting Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET against the Charlotte Hornets. They also will face the Summer League teams of the Miami Heat at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, the Portland Trail Blazers at 7 p.m. Sunday and the Philadelphia 76ers at 4 p.m., July 15. The date and time of the fifth game will be determined by the results of their other games.
This year’s Magic Summer League roster includes some well-known players who have been on NBA regular-season rosters, including forward Cam Reddish, the No. 10 overall pick out of Duke in 2019; and guard Keon Johnson, the No. 21 pick in the 2021 draft who most recently played for the Brooklyn Nets.

Magic fans also will get a chance to see some of the new coaches on head coach Sean Sweeney’s staff. DJ Bakker, who will be Orlando’s assistant coach/director of player development, will be the coach for Orlando’s Summer League team.
The Magic on Monday announced the team’s assistant coaching staff. In addition to Bakker, Sweeney’s staff will include Joe Prunty, who was on Jamahl Mosley’s coaching staff last season; 10-year NBA player Greg Buckner, 10-year-plus NBA player Popeye Jones, Tom Bialaszewski, Riley Crean, Jon Harris, Ben Johnson, Jacqlyn Poss and Mfon Udofia. Shannon Lum has been named assistant coach/director of coaching operations.
Terms of the contracts of the assistant coaches and the two-way players, including Nelson, were not disclosed.
The Magic have filled 14 of their 15 regular-season roster spots and all three of their two-way positions.
