The City of St. Petersburg unveiled a brand new public art installation, The Sunshine City Mosaic, during a community event on Oct. 29 in Sunset Park (Park Street and Central Avenue).
The colorful mosaic stretches 175 feet and covers more than 700 square feet. Artists used more than 15,000 individual tiles to create nine vivid vignettes that highlight Florida’s diverse wildlife and natural beauty.
“As a City of the Arts, it’s critical to have public art represented in all pockets of St. Petersburg,” said Mayor Kenneth T. Welch in a media release. “The Sunshine City Mosaic celebrates our community’s spirit and connects our vibrant artistic culture with the beauty of our parks. This project shows St. Pete’s dedication to creativity and unity.” said Mayor Welch.

The Sunshine City Mosaic joins more than 90 installations in St. Petersburg’s public art collection. Visit stpete.org/publicart to explore the city’s full list of public art projects.
