MIAMI – They were flying off the shelves Monday afternoon, the No. 34 Miami Heat Giannis Antetokounmpo jerseys that fans had been waiting two weeks to purchase.
And now? Collectors items.
In the wake of the NBA finalizing the trade that delivered the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player to South Florida, the Heat quickly put out word that Antetokounmpo gear was on sale by the team, with ample options for No. 34.
Except . . .
During an appearance on a stream earlier in the day, Antetokounmpo hinted at a number switch, to completely change his look after 13 seasons in No. 34 with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Later, the reality hit the Heat’s marketing department – which at the time had No. 7 jerseys available . . . if the desire was to have one with the number of second-round pick Ryan Conwell, who already has been in action wearing that number with the Heat at summer league.

Safe to say, the Heat weren’t going to draw the line with Antetokounmpo at a number choice, after parting in the trade with Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis and significant draft capital.
Not counting Conwell, who has yet to play his first official NBA game, Ware most recently wore No. 7 for the Heat, a number that has a bit of recent history with the franchise.
In 2021, when he joined the Heat in free agency, guard Kyle Lowry first asked for permission from Goran Dragic to take hold of No. 7. Dragic wore the number until he was sent out in the deal for Lowry.
In all, 13 players previously have worn No. 7 for the Heat: Rex Chapman 1996, Mark Davis 199,
Don MacLean 2001, Mike James 2003, Lamar Odom 2004, Wesley Person 2005, Penny Hardaway 2008, Shawn Marion 2008-2009, Jermaine O’Neal 2009-2010, Justin Hamilton 2014-2015, Dragic 2015-2021, Lowry 2022-2024 and Ware 2025-2026.
Heat players who have worn No. 34 have been Todd Mitchell 1989, Willie Burton 1991-1994,
Eddy Curry 2012 and Ray Allen 2013-2014.
Antetokounmpo took No. 34 with the Bucks and Greek national team, with the “3” coming from his mother’s birth year of 1963 and the “4” from his father’s birth year of 1964. Now, that equals No. 7.
