ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A man’s body was recovered from a creek in St. Lucie County on Tuesday. Now, the discovery is being investigated as a homicide.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) said it launched a homicide investigation following the discovery of a body in the Taylor Creek Spillway. At around 10:30 a.m. on November 4, deputies from the Patrol Operations Bureau, along with members of the SLCSO Marine Unit, responded to a report of a body floating in the water near 1800 North U.S. Highway 1.

The sheriff’s office said at the scene, deputies recovered a deceased man from the waterway. The victim is described as a Black man with dreadlocks. Authorities are working to confirm his identity.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division have taken over the case, which remains active and ongoing.
