FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — The man who was shot the day after Independence Day died from his injuries on Tuesday.

According to the Fort Pierce Police Department, the shooting occurred around 3:43 a.m. on Sunday, near South 14th Street. When officers arrived, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. A woman had been shot in the hand, while a man suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators said the victims had been involved in an earlier altercation on Okeechobee Road before returning home. As they arrived, a man believed to have been involved in the altercation approached and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

The shooting remains under investigation, according to FPPD.

This isn’t the only shooting that occurred around the Fourth of July. FPPD said officers responded to Avenue I after a man was shot while riding a bicycle. Following the shooting, the man was taken to the hospital.
