An 18-year-old killed in a crash Oct. 26 is being remembered by his family as someone who touched countless hearts.
David Salazar-Castillo died when the car he was riding in left the road and hit a palm tree head-on on 58th Street North in Largo, according to the Largo Police Department.
The driver, 21-year-old Arael Vaquero, was heading south on 58th Street North at a high speed when he crashed into two fixed objects, police said. Vaquero was taken to a hospital with injuries.
Investigators determined impairment was a factor in the crash, police said. Vaquero was charged with DUI manslaughter.
Salazar-Castillo was one of four brothers who shared an unbreakable bond, according to a GoFundMe set up to help his family with funeral expenses.
“He was only 18, but in those 18 years, he touched countless hearts, something that’s been clear in the outpouring of love and support surrounding his family,” the GoFundMe page says. “They were more than brothers, they were best friends.”
