TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Some changes may soon be coming to the Leon County library system after a county commission meeting next week, according to the county meeting agenda notes.
County commissioners are voting on raising the age for library card eligibility and new guidelines for the library code of conduct.
One policy outlined in the meeting agenda would remove the library’s ban on carrying and displaying guns to ensure compliance with Florida’s open carry laws.
More news out of the Big Bend:
Another policy would increase the age to obtain a library card from 16 to 18. Those under 18 may still obtain a library card with a parent or guardian. This policy would also extend non-resident eligibility for a free library card to school, college and university employees.
The aforementioned policy would also establish clear guidelines for library card renewal policies (every two years) and cardholder responsibilities.
These and other policies are being voted on next week.
