Several businesses were evacuated on Wednesday in downtown Durham after a gas leak in front of the home of the Durham Bulls.

According to the Durham Fire Department, firefighters are investigating a “large” natural gas leak in front of the main entrance to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

A third party damaged the gas line causing the gas leak, a spokesperson for Enbridge Gas said.

The fire department’s division chief told WRAL News that local businesses were evacuated and several streets were shutdown near the ball park.

The gas was secured at 7:12 p.m. according to Enbridge Gas. Crews remain on scene to repair the damage.

The Bulls are on the road in Jacksonville, Florida, for a road series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
