WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Near record heat is expected across the state of Florida on Thursday.
An upper level ridge remains in place, allowing temperatures to soar above our daily average highs.

A layer of Saharan Dust remains in place as well. That helps to lower our rain chances and keep skies dry.
Temperatures have climbed into the 90s, and the Weather Prediction Center is monitoring 8 cities across the state that could get close to the daily record high.

Along with the heat comes plenty of humidity, and most of the state is under a Heat Advisory for the afternoon.
The Heat Index today will rise into the triple digits for most of Florida.
