Jacksonville police are asking for help identifying a driver who left the scene after a pedestrian was struck and later died.
The Jacksonville Police Department said officers responded around 12:27 a.m. July 10 to a collision at the intersection of Western Boulevard, also known as N.C. 53, and Gateway Drive South.
Police said the investigation showed a pedestrian had been walking in the roadway and was struck by a Jeep Wrangler. The driver of the Jeep, identified as Christina Geffre of Richlands, stopped to render aid.
Police said the pedestrian was then struck by a second vehicle, whose driver did not stop at the scene. That vehicle was reported to be pulling an enclosed U-Haul trailer.
The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital, where they later died. Police said the pedestrian’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
