The Leon County Sheriff’s Office arrested the former local church treasurer for Greater Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church on charges of grand theft and fraud.

On Nov. 3, deputies with LCSO’s Financial Crimes Unit arrested Marisa Humose, 48, following an investigation into financial theft at the church.

In June, the church’s pastor reported suspected financial discrepancies to LCSO after discovering a number of unauthorized transfers from the church’s Cash App account, a mobile payment application.

Humose served as treasurer for the church, which sits on Golden Street, from 2022 to June of 2025. As part of her job she had access to the church’s bank and Cash App accounts and was responsible for maintaining financial records.

The investigation uncovered that Humose stole more than $70,000 from the Cash App account during her tenure as church treasurer, according to LCSO.

She was arrested and booked into the Leon County Detention Facility on charges of organized scheme to defraud and grand theft over $50,000.

Humose was also an administrative assistant with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. She was involuntarily terminated on Nov. 3, the same day she was arrested, as the result of a separate investigation through FWC’s Office of Inspector General.
