One person was hospitalized after a small plane crashed near Tallahassee International Airport on Wednesday, according to the Tallahassee Fire Department.

At about 11:49 a.m., crews with the Tallahassee Fire Department responded to a plane crash near Cascade Lake, north of Tallahassee International Airport. When firefighters and airport rescue crews arrived, they found a downed aircraft with one occupant.

Firefighters treated the occupant, who was transported by Leon County EMS to a hospital for further evaluation. There were no other people aboard the plane, the Tallahassee Fire Department said. The department’s hazardous materials team also worked to contain leaking fuel after finding fuel spilling onto the aircraft’s wings.

The Tallahassee Fire Department said it is being assisted by the Tallahassee Police Department, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Leon County EMS, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
