A woman accused of leaving her teen daughter chained up at a fence at a home in Hialeah was arrested on Saturday, authorities said.
Yashira Marie Maldonado, 34, was charged with child neglect and child abuse.
According to authorities, on Saturday, officers arrived in Hialeah after receiving reports of a disturbance.
An arrest report said officers spoke with Maldonado’s mother, who told them her daughter left her child chained up to the fence of a witness’ home and then left.
Maldonado’s mother told officers she went to her daughter’s home to ask her if she could return to the home and pick up her child, but she wasn’t answering the door, the report said.
Soon after, the report said, Maldonado left her apartment and walked downstairs to where he mother and officers were. The mother then asked her where he grandson was.
Officers then went to the witness’ house and found the teen still chained to the fence, but she was OK, the report said.
During their investigation, officers reviewed surveillance video, which showed Maldonado driving the victim to the witness’ home, and then Maldonado was seen wrapping a metal chain around the teen’s waist and tying the other end to a fence so that she wouldn’t move around, the report said.
Maldonado, the report said, also dropped off a bookbag with clothes and medication, and then left her daughter outside, where she had no cover from the sun, no food or water.
When officers spoke with the witness, she told them she got a text from Maldonado that she was fired from her job, the report said.
The witness said that when she looked out the window of her efficiency, she was shocked to see the teen chained up, got out and tried to release her, but couldn’t, the report said. She told officers she didn’t call them because she was afraid that her landlord would evict her, and instead called her daughter and Maldonado’s mother.
Maldonado was then taken to the police headquarters and arrested.
