Tom Petty was born and raised in Florida, making Tampa Bay the perfect place to celebrate one of rock’s most beloved artists. Once again, WMNF 88.5 FM is proud to present the 7th Annual Tom Petty Birthday Tribute Show, bringing together some of the area’s finest musicians for an unforgettable night dedicated to Petty’s legendary catalog.
Like Tom Petty, WMNF found its voice in the late 1970s. While commercial radio leaned toward predictable classic rock, both Petty and WMNF embraced a richer musical landscape inspired by folk rock, punk, new wave, garage rock, and singer-songwriters. That independent spirit continues to define both the artist’s legacy and WMNF’s mission today.
Join us Saturday, October 3, at Skipper’s Smokehouse for an evening featuring nearly a dozen local bands performing more than 40 Tom Petty classics spanning his remarkable career. Each band will perform three to five songs in its own unique style, creating a nonstop celebration of the music that has inspired generations of fans.
Expect favorites from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Mudcrutch, The Traveling Wilburys, and Tom Petty’s solo recordings, with songs representing every era of his career, from his groundbreaking debut to his final studio releases.
