TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee postal worker is behind bars after being charged with mail theft, according to arrest documents.
The Office of Inspector General suspected NaPeaches Blair, a U.S. postal worker, of using a stolen gift card from the mail.
As part of an investigation, an undercover Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent handed Blair a sealed, wired envelope containing a greeting card with $1,000 cash inside. Arrest papers show the agent told Blair what was in the envelope and confirmed proper postage was attached before leaving the post office.
More crime on area:
Blair allegedly later opened the envelope, took the money out of the card and put the opened envelope into the outgoing mail basket, according to arrest documents.
When confronted by law enforcement, Blair said she hadn’t taken any money and had placed a greeting card envelope in the outgoing mail basket.
Investigators told Blair the envelope had a wired beacon that alerted them it had been opened.
Blair then said she had taken the money from the envelope, according to arrest documents.
Blair is charged with grand theft and mail theft, documents show.
