Kevin Fredericks swears the show is gonna be funny.
The comedian known as KevOnStage is going on the road this fall, to honor his dead brother, who was also his manager.
The 43-year-old comedian, online creator, and founder of the BET+ improv comedy show “The Hospital” is tackling the subject in Tampa as party of a comedy special, “Grief Sucks: A One Man Show by KevOnStage.”
The show centers around the death of Fredericks brother and manager, Jason, who died from a heart attack on a plane in September 2022. Fredericks took the difficult circumstances of losing a loved one as an opportunity to honor his brother’s legacy and impact through his one-man show.
“To use his passing as a way to help people better cope with grief and also better remember him to me just helps extend his legacy,” said Fredericks during a Blex Media interview.
Fredericks’ comedy style has always touched on themes of family life, faith and observations of pop culture.
Tickets to see KevOnStage play Tampa Theatre on Sunday, Oct. 18 are still available and start at $45.50.
Fredericks started on social media performing comedy sketches before dipping his toes into the stand up comedy world. Listed in the Times 100 content creators of 2026 list, Fredericks works endlessly posting social media content daily and hosts four different podcasts. His 2025 book “Successful Failure: Lessons Learned Flat on My Face” is a New York Times bestseller.
KevOnStage’s Tampa Theatre gig is one of the first shows to happen inside the Duncan Auditorium, which has been under renovation since last March.
A spokesperson for Tampa Theatre told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that renovations celebrating the historic venue’s centennial should be done by late-September. The first show back inside the main theater is an Oct. 2 comedy gig from actress Atsuko Okatsuka.
