Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Chief Jason Dougherty has been named the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association’s 2025 Fire Chief of the Year.
The recognition honors outstanding leadership, dedication and service to the fire profession and local communities.
Dougherty, who became chief of Hillsborough County Fire Rescue in December 2023, received the award Tuesday evening during the closing Installation Dinner at the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association Executive Development Conference in Punta Gorda.
According to the association, the annual award recognizes a chief officer who demonstrates exceptional leadership and a commitment to public safety. Recipients are also recognized for earning the respect of their peers across Florida and for their contributions to advancing the fire service.
In a Facebook post, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue praised Dougherty’s leadership since he took over the department, citing his focus on innovation, organizational improvements, and investments in firefighters and paramedics. The agency said he has remained committed to providing the highest level of service to Hillsborough County residents and visitors.
“This recognition reflects not only his vision and leadership but also the hard work and professionalism of every member of HCFR,” the department wrote.
The award is one of the highest honors presented annually by the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association.
