The kicking roles are often overlooked during football games, but play an important role in the success of teams.
As the first day of official practice July 29 draws near, here’s a look at eight kickers/punters to watch out for this season:
Josiah Benton, Jacksonville: The senior punter was second-team all-area after he averaged 34.9 yards per boot. Benton also looks to play a larger offensive role.
Isaiah Betton, Richlands: The senior kicker was third-team all-area after he made eight of nine extra points and six of 10 field goals. Betton is also the reigning area boys’ soccer player of year.
Daniel Canales, Liberty Christian Academy: The senior made 26 of 30 extra points and a field goal and was third-team all-area kick returner.
Kannon McBride, Croatan: The senior was first-team all-area kicker as a sophomore being taking over as quarterback and being named first-team all-area athlete. Last year he made 61 of 63 extra points and 10 of 14 field goals.
Cameron Nilson, Swansboro: The senior kicker/punter was first-team all-area after he made 17 of 18 extra points and three of four field goals while also averaging 35.3 yards per punt.
Sam Summers, Northside: The senior kicker/punter was second-team all-area kicker after he made 34 of 38 extra points and two field goals and averaged 31.1 yards per punt.
Camden Warren, Richlands: The senior was third-tea mall-area punter after he averaged 32 yards per boot.
Brody Weston, Jacksonville: The senior kicker made 58 xtra points and added a field goal.
