STUART — What started as a small community bank in Stuart grew into one of the Southeast’s largest community banking institutions.
Seacoast Bank is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, marking a century of serving customers across Florida and Georgia while looking ahead to its next chapter.
Founded in 1926 by Dennis S. Hudson Sr., Seacoast Banking Corporation of Florida has expanded from a hometown bank into a regional financial institution with more than 100 branches in two states.
Today, Seacoast offers commercial and consumer banking, wealth management and mortgage services, as well as digital and mobile banking solutions.
“For 100 years, Seacoast has had the privilege of serving alongside the individuals, families, and businesses whose vision, perseverance and achievements have helped shape the communities we call home,” said Chuck Shaffer, chairman and CEO of Seacoast Bank. “From our founding in Stuart to our growth across Florida and into Georgia, our purpose has remained unwavering: helping people, businesses and communities thrive. This milestone reflects the dedication of our bankers, the strength of our values and our enduring commitment to creating opportunity, fostering prosperity and serving our clients and neighbors for generations to come.”
Through decades of economic change, Seacoast has remained anchored by its Four Promises: providing the right team, making banking simple, resolving out-of-the-ordinary items responsively, and investing in the people, businesses, and communities it serves.
“Seacoast’s story began on the Treasure Coast, and this region remains at the heart of who we are,” said Robert Barfield, EVP, regional president. “As we celebrate 100 years of service, we are honored by the trust placed in us by generations of clients, associates and neighbors, and proud of all we have accomplished together.”
Seacoast was recognized as one of the Top 10 Most Generous Workplaces by the United Way of Martin County for seven consecutive years. The bank was named one of American Banker’s Best Banks to Work For and earned a spot on Inc. magazine’s Best Workplaces list for the second consecutive year in 2026.
“At Seacoast, community banking is not simply what we do. It is who we are,” said Dan Chappell, EVP, chief human resources officer. “As we begin our second century, we remain dedicated to preserving our dynamic, community-driven culture while attracting, developing and retaining exceptional talent who share our values and commitment to delivering an extraordinary client experience.”
Seacoast will commemorate its centennial throughout the year with community initiatives, storytelling and celebrations recognizing the people and places that have shaped the bank’s first 100 years.
