Three people have been arrested and more suspects are being sought as thieves have been targeting vehicles in North Lauderdale neighborhoods, authorities said.
Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said multiple burglar groups have been searching for unlocked vehicles, targeting mostly apartment complex parking lots and residential driveways.
They strike between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. with minimal or no forced entry, although they’ll smash through windows when valuables are visible.
The vehicles are ransacked and the thieves get away with “sizeable hauls” that include wallets, purses, sneakers, perfumes, hedge trimmers and leaf blowers.
Most concerning to authorities are the firearms that have been stolen from vehicle consoles, glove compartment and trunks.

Lock your vehicle and use wheel locks
Park your car in well-lit areas
Remove ALL personal items
Install and activate an alarm system
