The arrest of a former Broward Sheriff’s Office sergeant on Saturday came during a wellness check that led deputies to find him allegedly in violation of a domestic violence injunction, court records show.

Scott Nida, 55, remains in the Main Jail on Tuesday and is being held without bond.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on Saturday, an acquaintance of Nida called 911 to request a wellness check after Nida sent a “concerning text message,” according to a probable cause affidavit.

Deputies noticed the car of Nida’s longtime girlfriend was parked in the driveway, according to the affidavit. Nida came outside and told the deputies he did not have any contact with the woman and that she was not there.

There is an active no-contact order against Nida, who had previously been accused of assaulting the woman. That case is pending, and Nida has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel is not naming the woman because she is an alleged victim of domestic violence.

One deputy asked Wilton Manors Police Department’s Drone Unit to search the area from above, the affidavit said, out of concern that the woman “could be concealed somewhere on the property and potentially in need of assistance.”

The drone operator found the woman and her daughter “concealed inside an exterior storage/cubby area” that the deputies could not have seen from where they were standing, according to the affidavit.

After Nida was detained, the woman and her daughter told deputies they had been living with Nida for several weeks and that he had “formed a plan for them to hide in the backyard if law enforcement came to the house,” the affidavit said.

A temporary risk protection order requested by the Sheriff’s Office also remains in place against Nida.

In a statement emailed to the South Florida Sun Sentinel on Monday, Nida’s defense attorney Eric Schwartzreich pointed to recent requests from the woman that Nida not be prosecuted, including having “personally contacted the prosecutor’s office on multiple occasions” to ask that the charges filed against him in April be dropped.
