The Boston Red Sox (46-48) roared into the All-Star break with nine straight wins, all on the road, and get a chance on Friday night to see if that hot streak can extend to Fenway Park when they continue a four-game series with the American League East-leading Tampa Bay Rays (56-38). The teams played the first game of a day-night doubleheader earlier in the day, with the Red Sox entering the series with the worst home record in the AL at 17-27 and a half-game out of a wild-card spot. Tampa Bay entered Friday leading the AL East by three games over the New York Yankees.

Willson Contreras powered the offense in the first half with 20 home runs and 61 RBI on a .285/.379/.542 slash line and is eligible to return to the lineup on Friday night after finishing his five-game suspension in the first game of the doubleheader.
The Rays finished the first half with a 4-3 homestand and open the second half with an eight-game road trip to Boston and the Toronto Blue Jays. They survived a scare in Tuesday night’s All-Star Game when X-rays returned negative after slugger Junior Caminero took a pitch off his left hand in the third inning of the game. Caminero has 28 home runs and 59 RBI.
The Red Sox had not announced a starter for Friday night while Tampa Bay gives the ball to right-hander Mason Englert (0-2), who will be recalled from Triple-A Durham for the doubleheader. Englert enters with a 3.82 ERA and 1.370 WHIP in 13 appearances, including two starts, and 30.2 innings with the Rays this season.
