Walter Amos Taylor, Jr. (WJXT)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit is investigating the in-custody death of an inmate who died at a hospital Friday afternoon.

Walter Amos Taylor Jr., 68, was taken to the hospital on July 10 due to health concerns. Detectives with JSO’s Cold Case Unit were notified of his death on July 17.

Taylor remained in the hospital’s care from the time of his transport until his death.

Taylor was arrested in February on six counts of selling cocaine.

The incident is being investigated as a natural death, pending a conclusion from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
