A development of storms off the coast of Florida has been named by the National Hurricane Center as Invest 91L Saturday morning, Times-Picayune senior meteorologist Damon Singleton confirmed.
The disturbance has a 30% chance of developing over the next 7 days over the warm Gulf waters.
The system stretches across several Gulf states, from Louisiana to Florida, Singleton said Saturday morning.
While it’s unclear if the system will strengthen into a named storm, Singleton said southeast Louisiana residents should watch for updates from NHC. The system does not pose an immediate threat to residents.
The group of showers and thunderstorms, currently located in the eastern Gulf, is expected to bring heavy rain to Florida’s west coast and the Florida Panhandle.
Forecasters expect the disturbance to move slowly northward or north-northwestward over the next few days.
