RUSKIN, Fla. (CBS12) — New bodycam video shows the moment deputies say a Florida man opened fire on two Hillsborough County deputies after allegedly holding his ex captive overnight.
Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office say the deputy-involved shooting happened Thursday morning on West Shell Point Road in Ruskin.
The investigation began after a woman reported her ex-boyfriend, 34-year-old Christopher Dmuchowski, held her captive at gunpoint overnight, according to previous reports.
Authorities said deputies responded to Dmuchowski’s home around 9:52 a.m. after learning he was armed and alone.

Using a drone, law enforcement observed him leave his apartment and walk toward a vehicle when he suddenly opened fire and struck two deputies, Deputy Sopharmony Muon and Deputy Colton Daniels.
Sgt. Harrison Bashner arrived during the gunfire where he shot and killed Dmuchowski, according to reports.
“This suspect was intent on killing our deputies,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “He ambushed them, and he would have succeeded if not for the heroic actions of one of our own.”
Dmuchowski, a convicted felon, was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he later died.
Muon has been with HCSO for two years, Daniels for four years and Bashner for 28 years.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
