MIAMI, Okla. — An injured war veteran got a warm welcome back to Miami today. We talked to him and the organization that helped set up that warm welcome with a new home.
Iraq war veteran Billy Chandler arrived at the Miami First Assembly of God today Saturday, escorted by a caravan of first responder, biker club, and Law enforcement vehicles. His homecoming comes courtesy of Homes for Our Troops.
The organization provides post-9/11 vets free, adapted and accessible homes in their state of choice. Billy’s ceremony allowed his fellow veterans and other community members to welcome him, as well as to sign the beams that will be used in his future home’s foundation.
“We have been blessed in ways I can’t even imagine. And this just goes to show that, you know, there are truly people out there that are willing to love you and be there for you and show you that, hey, you know, we support you through all those years,” said Chandler.
Homes for Our Troops Director of Development Chris Mitchell says today is a great step toward being able to help more veterans nationwide. Later tonight, we’ll hear more about both Chandler’s and the organization’s history.
