CEDAR KEY, Fla. (WCJB) – Tropical Depression Two strengthened into Tropical Storm Bertha Monday evening as it moved through the Gulf, bringing rain and gusty winds to parts of North Central Florida throughout the day.
Video from Cedar Key showed rain moving in and out of the area, with periods of intense winds and thunderstorms.
Storm conditions in Cedar Key
Richard Slocum, a Cedar Key resident, described the conditions Monday.
“It’s just a windy, windy day,” Slocum said. “I mean, we got the Gulf of America sitting right there. It could be a whole heck of a lot worse, but it’s really not that bad. It’s like a thunderstorm in the afternoon.”
Latest storm data
As of Monday evening, Tropical Storm Bertha had maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour. The system could strengthen somewhat, but significant development is not expected.
Residents in Cedar Key said they will continue to monitor the latest developments.
