SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – As the heat rises, dog owners are finding it harder to keep their pets active and healthy outdoors. Dogs Inc is offering a solution: indoor exercises that benefit both a dog’s physical and mental health.
Jenni Scamardo, director of puppy raising services at Dogs Inc, and Emilee Perkins, manager of the canine fitness program, said owners do not need fancy equipment or a large amount of space to do exercises and activities with their dogs indoors.
About the exercises
The exercises are part of Dogs Inc’s Canine Fitness and Puppy Raising programs. Some exercises focus on strength and flexibility, while others help dogs practice problem solving — a skill the organization said is important in the dogs’ future careers as guide dogs.
The Canine Fitness and Puppy Raising programs are described as important parts of training Dogs Inc’s dogs to become service and guide dogs.
How to get involved
For those who do not own a dog but want to get involved, Dogs Inc said it is always looking for puppy raisers. More information about volunteer programs is available at dogsinc.org/volunteer.
