CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – Florida Highway Patrol has arrested a New York man in connection with a March crash on Interstate 75 in Charlotte County that killed one adult and two children.
Troopers arrested Ryan Richard Mowdy, 28, of Laurel, New York, following what FHP described as an exhaustive criminal investigation into the March 27 crash on northbound I-75 near Mile Marker 153.

Mowdy faces three counts of DUI manslaughter and three counts of vehicular homicide. He also faces charges of evidence destruction and marijuana possession, according to FHP.

FHP alleges Mowdy was under the influence of marijuana when he drove a 2014 Jeep Wrangler across the interstate’s grass median and into the path of a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe. The collision killed one adult and two children, FHP said.

Mowdy was booked into the Charlotte County Jail. The crash remains under investigation.
