Fort Myers will inspect the vacant former Greater Fort Myers Chamber building on Edwards Drive after approving a $49,277 contract to evaluate its condition and estimate renovation costs following Hurricane Ian damage.

Fort Myers City Council hired an architectural firm to assess the condition of the vacant Chamber of Commerce building at 2310 Edwards Drive in downtown Fort Myers. Council members approved a $49,277 agreement with Studio for Architecture during their July 20 meeting.
Built in 1961, the building previously served as a library and, most recently, the Greater Fort Myers Chamber. It has remained closed since sustaining damage during Hurricane Ian in 2022.
The firm will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the building’s condition and estimate the cost of bringing it into compliance with current safety, building code and regulatory requirements. The assessment will include structural and architectural inspections, an evaluation of flood damage, and reviews of the fire and electrical systems, ADA accessibility, roofing and other building components.
